Harry Home

I am not too good at this whole blogging thing. But since nobodys reading it yet I don't suppose is matters :D.

So since my last blog, Harry has come home! He has been home for 5 whole days now, and I think he likes me a lot more now. (Well it's a choice of me or the chickens!) We have been practising coming in and out of the stable, since he doesnt want to leave his stable, but then doesnt want to go back in!

He was quite jumpy the first day home when I went in to muck out, my fork was blue! What a ridiculous colour! He thought. But he has quickly got used to stupidly coloured tools, and has stopped jumping every time I move with one in my hand.

He was also not too good at being handled on his off side the first few days, but is now happy for me to groom him on both sides (although he doesnt want me touching his belly - that's where the wolves attack!)

So every day is a bit more progress, the biggest thing I am pleased about is that his first reaction when something spooks him is to turn to me - hooray he likes me!

We finished this evening with putting a headcollar on and off over the one that's currently staying on 24/7 at the moment, but the plan is when he's happy with the new headcollar going on and off, then the current one shall come off.

He's also been having fun skidding around the paddock in the frost! More up dates, after christmas I expect!

New Foal

This blog is all about my new foal (which isn't even mine yet) He is out of a black welsh cob mare, by the traditional gypsy cob piebald stallion Jumping Jack Flash. He was born on Coombe Farm Stud whilst I was working ther (I no longer work there, but that's another story).

Since I love the mare and stallion due to combination of temperament, health, paces and looks (in that order) I asked if I could have the foal at weaning, a price was agreed, the foal is mine! Well he is now weaned but due to passport not being ready he hasnt come home yet, so I've been going up to see him. His name is Flash Harry, and Harry for short.

First time I visited him he was not a happy Harry, hiding in the corner of the stable and refusing to talk to me, but I have since visited several times, just going in and standing in the stable, until curiosity gets the better of him and he will slowly edge nearer, breathing smoke all the time, until he is eventually close enough to stretch out his nose and touch me, at which point he then rapidly retreats back to his corner and thinks about it. It is not long however before he is again edging forward, and on the last visit he was quite happy to let me stroke and scratch his withers and neck. Hooray he likes me!

I can only wait with excitement until he is home and i can spend time with him everyday, until then its looking like once or twice a week. Hopefully the passport process wont take long, and he'll be home before christmas! Going to visit him tomorrow :)
